Beloved Soap Opera Veteran Robin Strasser Celebrates Her Birthday

It’s quite probable that none of the famous roles Robin Strasser created has anything to celebrate today, but the same can’t be said for the actress herself.

That’s because she was born on May 7, 1945, in New York City, which means that this talented performer is turning 78 years old today! Strasser began acting in the early 1960s and quickly established herself as a theatrical virtuoso in productions such as The Shadow Box, Chapter Two, and The Irregular Verb to Love.

Her on-camera career began in 1964 when she joined the cast of The Secret Storm (as Iris). Between 1967 and 1972, Strasser portrayed Rachel Davis Matthews on NBC’s Another World.

After leaving that role, Strasser was chosen by prolific daytime scribe Agnes Nixon – she who had created the Rachel Davis part – to join the cast of All My Children in the contract role of Dr. Christina Karras Martin.

While debating the merits of joining One Life to Live in the role of Cathy Craig, Robin Strasser instead accepted the opportunity to replace actress Claire Malis who had been playing former physician (and uber-superbitch) Dorian Cramer Lord since 1977. For her work at OLTL, Strasser won the 1982 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress.

Strasser played Dorian during three separate stints – 1979 to 1987, 1993 to 2000, and 2003 to August 2011. She also played the character throughout the entirety of OLTL’s online revival in 2013.

Her other screen credits include guest appearances in episodes of The Rookies, Friends and Lovers, Highway to Heaven, Annie McGuire, Murder, She Wrote, China Beach, Coach, Knots Landing, and Murphy Brown.

Her other daytime roles include Passions‘ Hecuba, a centuries-old witch, and a recast Vivian Alamain on NBC’s Days of our Lives.
