Get ready for a new spin on the character of Trina Robinson, when Tabyana Ali takes over the role of Josslyn Jacks’s longtime best friend. The recast was set in motion when Sydney Mikayla opted to exit the soap to focus on her college studies full time.

Although Ali has been performing since 2012 – a full decade, this marks her foray into the daytime medium. And according to her social media post, she’s “grateful” for the opportunity and thankful “for the warm welcome. I’m so happy to be in this position,” she enthused. Want to learn more about the actress portraying Trina? Here are seven things to know about Tabyana Ali:

1. Ali made her first television appearance as a contestant on Disney Channel’s Win, Lose or Draw — back in 2014 as Tabyana Ford.

2. She’s an actress and an author. Ali wrote the children’s book, My Flower Child. “This book is for mothers and daughters everywhere of all ages. It doesn’t matter if you’re 2 or 102. This book is about the bond between a mother and her daughter and the experiences shared together,” Ali posted on Instagram.

3. She’s super close to her mom and her sister. In an Instagram post to honor Mother’s Day she hailed the pair as her “mommies.” She wrote, “To Mother aka Linda aka Ms. Jacqueline: I thank you for birthing me and giving me life, I thank you for fighting for me, I thank you for loving me, I thank you for supporting me… To Morgan aka Mother #2 aka sissy aka sister: You have always been like my second mother, you have always watched and cared over me like I was your own daughter. I have never once had to question the support or love you give me. You have always been a big inspiration to me…”

4.
Ali has made guest appearances on a few TV series. Among them: New Girl, A Kid Called Mayonnaise, The Big Show, and Stuck Together.

5.
She also voiced the character of Leelee in two episodes of Nick Jr.’s animated preschool series, Shimmer, and Shine. Her character in the project was a magical sea creature.

6. There’s even a horror flick among Ali’s credits. She appeared in the thriller Horror Noire, which was released on Shudder on Oct 28, 2021. At the time she dubbed the feature a “black horror anthology” and urged fans “to watch out for Regina,” the character she portrayed.

7. What can fans look forward to seeing Ali in next? She just wrapped filming on the movie Empire Waist. It’s a body-positive, coming-of-age feature.
