Kristin Davis is a television, theater, and film actress who is best known for playing Charlotte York in both the Sex and the City television show and the two feature films that followed. She’s also appeared on a soap.

Along with her work on those shows, Davis has also been in Melrose Place, Couples Retreat, and Deck the Halls. From where she was born and raised to the animals she wants to protect, here are five fast facts about the actress.

Who Is Kristin Davis?

Davis was born on February 23 in Boulder, Colorado. She mostly grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and she began acting when she was 9 years old. She graduated from A.C. Flora High School and then moved to New Jersey to attend Rutgers University, where she graduated with a BFA degree in Acting.

Soap Beginnings
After graduating from college, Davis moved to New York City to start her acting career. She also waited tables and opened a yoga studio with a friend in order to pay the bills. She then got the role of Betsy Chilson on General Hospital in Los Angeles in 1991.

A Survivor
Davis has been very open about her battle with alcoholism. In an interview with Marie Claire, she revealed she didn’t think she’d live past 30 because of her addiction. She started heavily drinking as a teenager, and it ended up taking over her life. Thankfully, she realized she had a problem in her 20s and has been sober since she was 22. She also credits acting with saving her life, as it was one the one thing that made her want to be sober.

Protector of Elephants

Along with her acting career, Davis is committed to protecting elephants. During a visit to Africa in 2009, the actress found an abandoned baby elephant and was able to get it to a rehabilitation center. She also supports the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which works to protect those vulnerable animals.

Davis has never married, but she has adopted two children — daughter Gemma Rose in 2011, and in 2018 she adopted her son. Both of her children are African American and she has been very open about the importance of making sure her kids feel connected to the black community.
