Though Kidman is a proud Australian, she was actually born in Hawaii! Her parents were temporarily in the United States on student visas, but they moved back to Australia when Kidman was quite young.

Kidman worked a lot in Australia before she made it to America. In fact, her first American film was actually the 1990 film Days of Thunder, which she was in with her future ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
