Helmut Huber, television producer and beloved husband of soap icon Susan Lucci, has died at the age of 84.

People reported that he passed peacefully on Monday on Long Island. A representative for the actress, who portrayed Erica Kane on ABC’s now-defunct soap opera All My Children, released a statement on her behalf.
“A family man, he was a loyal friend, and loved them deeply. With a roaring sense of humor, larger-than-life personality, and a practical problem-solver, he lived his life to the fullest. Mr. Huber who formerly raced motorcycles in Austria was a first-rate skier, and avid golfer, belonging to the Garden City Golf Club and Westhampton Country Club.”
The actress’s publicist Jessica Sciacchitano also gave a statement. “Helmut’s passing is a tremendous loss for all who knew and loved him. He was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend,” it read. “The family kindly asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Susan Lucci married Huber on September 13, 1969, right around the time she took on the role of Erica Kane, which she played for 41 years. He was a chef and food service manager at the time of their wedding. However, later he served as his wife’s manager and the head of Pine Valley Productions.
Huber was born in Austria in 1937, and he came to Canada at the age of 21, moving to New York City by age 23. He spoke several languages fluently, and he graduated at the top of his class from L’Ecole Hoteliere in Lausanne, Switzerland. He became a United States citizen on January 26, 1994.
Huber is survived by his wife, their children Liza Huber (ex-Gwen Hotchkiss, Passions) and Andreas Huber, and his brother. Instead of flowers, the family has asked that those wishing to honor Huber in his passing send donations in his name to the American Stroke Association.
