GH’s Dedication Episode to Stuart Damon and Alan Quartermaine

When Stuart Damon passed away earlier this year, it was reported that General Hospital would be dedicating an upcoming episode to the late actor. That dedication aired earlier this week with clips shown of Damon’s 30-year run as Dr. Alan Quartermaine.

General Hospital Dedicates An Episode To Stuart Damon

The clips showed the range Damon brought to his role as Alan for which he won the Daytime Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1999. We saw a menacing Alan brandishing a gun as he climbed up the stairs outside Kelly’s Diner, ready to confront his adulterous wife Monica (Leslie Charleson) who was sleeping with Rick Webber (Chris Robinson), Alan playfully sliding down the banister at the Quartermaine mansion (it’s actually, Monica’s house — Alan bought it for her), Alan supporting Monica through her breast cancer ordeal, Alan performing at the Nurses Ball as the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz, and many other memorable moments.

Fans were speculating online if this was the episode that was set to pay tribute to the late Daytime Emmy winner but it’s important to note that in the Red Carpet report Los Angeles entertainment news reporter George Pennacchio said that GH would be dedicating an episode to Damon — not that it would be a full tribute episode as viewers have seen in the past for actors, including John Reilly (ex-Sean Donley) and Norma Connolly (ex-Aunt Ruby).

Leslie Charleson Remembers The Late Actor

Charleson spoke to Soap Hub exclusively following Damon’s passing. “We had a wonderful relationship,” said Charleson, who has played Dr. Monica Bard Webber Quartermaine since 1977. “I was his ‘daytime wife’ and he went home to Deirdre, his forever wife, and we all had a wonderful relationship. He was not only a good actor but, as he was taller than me, I could just rest my head on his chest. That was nice. I’d lean up against him and say, ‘I could just take a nap right here.’

“Also,” Charleson continued, “if I was screwing up with the lighting [and my position], he could literally just [pick me up] and move me to the proper place. We worked at making each other laugh. It paid off in our performances and in real life, too. We just had a lot of fun. We’d get angry at each other, too. It was as if we were a married couple.”
