A Twitter account identifying itself as belonging to actress Bergen Williams’s sister shared the news of the actress’s passing earlier this year. The performer played the role of Big Alice, the Quartermaine’s maid, on General Hospital from 2001-2014.
GH Stars Honor Bergen Williams
Many of the show’s cast members took to social media to pay tribute to the late star, whose other credits included Scrubs, NYPD Blue, 7th Heaven, Happy Endings, and Babylon 5. According to Williams’s sister, who managed the account, she passed away on July 20, 2021, following a battle with “Wilson’s Disease surrounded by [her] loving family.”
“We are saddened to learn about the recent passing of Bergen Williams,” Frank Valentini, executive producer, GH, tweeted. “She will always be an honorary Quartermaine and a special part our #GH family. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and fans.”
Alice was more than just the Quartermaine housekeeper. She worked as a wrestler, who went by the handle ‘The Dominator.’ She suffered a heart attack and Sonny (Maurice Benard) helped arrange for a much-needed heart transplant. After her surgery, Alice retired.
Bergen Williams’s Screen Smooch
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) posted a clip on Twitter from when Alexis disguised herself as Dobson, a butler at the Quartermaine mansion. Alice coerced “Dobson” into a kiss, and the scene left an impact on Grahn. “Best kiss evah! RIP dear Bergen,” posted Grahn.
“What a kind woman,” Jason Thompson (Billy, The Young and the Restless; ex-Patrick, GH) shared on social media after seeing a post from former co-star Wally Kurth (Ned). “Light and love to her family and loves ones.” Kurth posted: “Sending heartfelt condolences to Bergen’s family. She was a bright light in the Q house for many years. RIP.”
Wilson’s Disease
Bergen Williams’s sister posted online information about Wilson’s Disease to help others who may be affected by the condition. “For more information about Wilson’s Disease I’ve made a thread of information,” she wrote. “It is a very rare disease but easily treatable. Bergen advocated for Wilson’s Disease patients. #WilsonsDisease #GH #BergenWilliams.” Soap Hub sends sincere condolences to Bergen’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
