One of the best and most fun things to come out of General Hospital late last year was the unexpected pairing of Michael E. Knight as Martin Grey with Lynn Herring’s Lucy Coe. The two are a match made in soap opera heaven! Knight thinks so too and let fans know just that recently.
Michael E. Knight Talks Martin/Lucy Pairing
Viewers first got a glimpse of Michael E. Knight and Lynn Herring when the two actors appeared in a General Hospital promo shoot in which the actors wished the show’s fans a happy holiday. However, the best was yet to come when Lucy and Martin hooked up for holiday fun.
“I gotta tell you,” Knight said at a recent GH Fantasy Events gathering on Zoom with many of the show’s fervent fans. “Lynn and I have known each other for decades,” the actor revealed. “Not for nothing, but she is so good-looking!” The former All My Children star (Knight played Tad ‘the Cad’ Martin on the beloved ABC serial) said he learned of the pairing from the show’s executive producer Frank Valentini. “He walks over to me on stage and says, ‘You’re jumping into bed with Lucy next week.’ No pressure!”
Super Soap Days Gone By
Fortunately, Michael E. Knight said that he and Herring have known each other for decades and spent time in person at the ABC Daytime fan event Super Soap Weekend in Florida. “We’ve probably got 75 years of soap experience [between us],” Knight mused, who thought the idea to pair Lucy and Martin together was both “fantastic” and “wonderful.”
James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine), who is Michael E. Knight’s longtime pal, said during the GH Fantasy Events gathering that “you [Martin and Lucy] are a great pair. You’re both so prepared — more than I think anyone on the show. I know I’ve never seen a script in your hands. You know your dialogue backwards and forwards.” Stuart was on set during the days when Knight and Herring were lighting up the screen. “All I needed was a bucket of popcorn,” GH’s Valentin said.
Michael E. Knight Gives Gratitude
Knight revealed he’s thrilled that Martin’s been doing this romantic romp with Herring’s Lucy. “You never know how lucky you are [until something’s gone],” the actor said about AMC being a part of his life for so long, and now it not being around anymore. “Just to have a place to go to and work with people that you know [like I have with GH] is really terrific.
“My hat is off to Frank,” Knight raved. “He’s kept the show going during COVID. [Everyone] has managed to do this, which is phenomenal.” General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
