We can imagine that Elizabeth Webber on General Hospital doesn’t spend a lot of time on social media given that the widowed mother of three also holds down a full-time job as a nurse. Likewise, her portrayer, Rebecca Herbst isn’t posting pictures of her morning coffee or latte. However, she recently popped up on Twitter after almost two years away to deliver a very special message.
“Yesterday was such a beautiful day!” Herbst tweeted on the day after her birthday. “THANK YOU for all your sweet birthday messages!” The actress has two fan bases given the men in Elizabeth’s life. “Friz” represents the Franco (Roger Howarth) contingent and “Liason” is comprised of Liz and Jason (Steve Burton) fans. Both groups reached out to Herbst on her special day.
“#Friz & #Liason showered me with the most gorgeous flowers, cakes & goodies,” Herbst reports. One group went a step further and used their love of Herbst and one of her leading men to raise funds for a worthy charity. “And #Friz donated $2500 to #SmileTrain…I felt very loved. I’m so grateful for each & every one of you.”
Smile Train, per the organization’s website, was founded in 1999. It is the world’s leading cleft charity, helping more than 1.5 million children with clefts, training thousands of medical professionals, and establishing hundreds of programs in the world’s poorest countries. The Smile Train is an organization near and dear to Herbst’s heart.
The actress debuted on General Hospital in 1997 when Elizabeth came to Port Charles to live with her grandmother Audrey (Rachel Aames). As the biological granddaughter of the late Steve Hardy (original cast member John Beradino), Liz is a true legacy character. Her interest in Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) was one-sided, but after he discovered her in the park after she’d been raped, Lucky and Liz’s relationship took on a new dynamic. He supported her through her ordeal, which turned to friendship, and then love.
Over Herbst’s decades on the show, Liz has been involved with Zander (Chad Brannon), Jason (Steve Burton), and other Port Charles hotties. Howarth’s Franco was killed off earlier this year, but the actor is set to return to the series in a yet-to-be-announced role. Fans are hoping the show will capitalize on Howarth and Herbst’s chemistry and reunite the two onscreen. Stay tuned to see if that happens! General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
