General Hospital's Brando, Britt, and Nina Revamps Have Gone So Wrong
 Comments

Characters often change on soaps. It’s part of the drill to forge relationships and drive plot points. However, sometimes those changes don’t make sense or ring true to a character’s core. That’s currently the case with Brando Corbin, Britt Westbourne, and Nina Reeves on General Hospital — three prominent players whose revamps have gone so wrong.

General Hospital Stud to Dud

Brando (Johnny Wactor) entered the General Hospital scene guns blazing – literally. He appeared in the middle of a mob shootout and pulled Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) to safety. A grateful Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) set up his cousin with his own garage, where he had a fling with Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) and, ultimately, got pulled into mob life. The character was daring, dangerous, and intriguing; that is, until his one-night stand with Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) left her pregnant.

Since then, all Brando does on General Hospital is follow Sasha around town like a puppy dog. He’s even agreed to walk away from Sonny’s world to be a devoted dad. The fairy tale ending might appeal to some fans, but all it’s done is suck the life out of a sexy character, who once had so much promise and potential.

From Player to Played

From the first day she appeared on the Port Charles scene, Kelly Thiebaud’s Britt was a true playgirl; the love ‘em and leave ‘em type. She had her share of flings and relationships – think Patrick Drake, Nikolas Cassadine, and Julian Jerome – but once they ended, she simply moved on.

However, after spending a few weeks on the run with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and having sex with him, Britt’s been transformed into a lovesick emotional wimp. The strong self-assured woman she’s always been has totally disappeared, and in her place is a pathetic female pining over the man that got away. That’s not who Britt has ever been at her core, and it’s sad to see the character dissolve into such a weak unrecognizable state on General Hospital.

Nina Reeves Gone Mad

It took years, but Nina (Cynthia Watros) finally got her life together. She had a good job, editor of Crimson, and a good man, Jax (Ingo Rademacher). While Jax’s betrayal – not telling her that the late Nelle Benson was her daughter – justifiably sent her into a tailspin on General Hospital, how far it’s gone makes no sense and has destroyed all the strides she’s made.

Keeping the secret that Sonny is alive, for months, can only have one outcome for Nina: disaster. She’s smart enough to know that. Once the truth comes out,
she’ll be an outcast, again – a sad fate considering how far she’s come. Plus, she’ll likely lose all access to her grandson Wiley. It’s ludicrous that Nina would risk that for a fantasy life in Nixon Falls with Sonny/“Mike.”
