The first was that the endowment was to be made in the name of Mikos Cassadine and the second was that Luke Spencer had to interrupt his honeymoon for a face-to-face meeting. Later, Luke would find that Helena had gifted him and his new bride the Cassadine yacht (the Titan), which he and Laura would re-christen the Haunted Star.
Favorite Plaything
Upon first meeting Luke, Helena was immediately struck with a flurry of emotions. Before her stood her husband’s murderer and yet she felt an odd kinship with him. In fact, she told Luke that she could see traits of Mikkos in him. In the ensuing years, Helena and Luke would engage in a particularly edgy dance that walked a razor’s edge between love and hate.
Despite never wanting to harm Luke physically, Helena certainly attacked him both emotionally and psychologically. She kidnapped both his mother-in-law and beloved wife and held them hostage for years, brainwashed Lucky into turning against his parents, and she even let Luke believe that he had run over and killed his grandson — and then watched as he descended into alcoholism.
That Dreaded Cassadine Curse
Seething with anger that Luke dared to dismiss her invitation for a meeting, Helena managed to pilfer personal trinkets belonging to him and Laura and made her way to the Spencer wedding venue. While viewing the ceremony from afar, Helena produced the stolen baubles and, using them as a talisman, as she enacted an awful revenge: “My curse on you Laura and Luke,” she hissed, “my curse on both of you!”
But Mr. and Mrs. Spencer would not be the only victims of the dreaded “Cassadine Curse.” Other recipients include the Quartermaine family, Elizabeth Webber, and Samantha McCall.
Final Demise
Despite appearing to have nine lives – she did, after all, survive falling from a cliff, over a parapet, and being shot at point-blank range – Helena finally met her maker after consuming a cup of tea. A tad uneventful you might think?
Not when you realize that tea had been poisoned by Nikolas Cassadine, the grandson whom Helena had loved but frequently betrayed due to his moral compass and love affairs with “unsuitable female company.” General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
