It’s been great to see a bit more Epiphany on General Hospital, but we haven’t seen nearly enough of her over the past year. Despite that, actress Sonya Eddy has plenty of reason to celebrate.
That’s because the actress was born on June 17, 1967, in Concord, California, which means that she’s turning 52 years old today! The California girl stayed that way, graduating from the University of California at Davis.
It was during her studies that she began her acting career in the West Coast premiere of Zora, Is My Name!, which was written by acclaimed actress (and past Guiding Light star as Martha Frazier in 1967) Ruby Dee. Eddy continued with more theater roles and won an Arty Award for her role of Bloody Mary in South Pacific.
She has also appeared all over primetime and has had recurring roles on Seinfeld, The Invisible Man, Primetime Glick, Joan of Arcadia (with former GH star Amber Tamblyn), ER, Burning Hollywood, Legit, Fresh Off the Boat, and Those Who Can’t.
She’s also appeared in quite a number of hit films, including Coach Carter with Samuel L. Jackson, Bad News Bears with Billy Bob Thornton, Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Matchstick Men, Surviving Christmas, and Year of the Dog with Molly Shannon.
Of course, it’s her role on General Hospital, which she has been playing since 2006, that has earned her the loyalty of so many soap fans.
