It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since Alexis Davis first stepped foot in Port Charles, giving actress Nancy Lee Grahn a new daytime home after playing Julia Wainwright Capwell on Santa Barbara for eight years.
As the actress begins her 25th year on GH, she offers her fans this message of thanks on Instagram.
“Today I begin my 25th year on General Hospital So this is all going to be about you. It is because of you that I have this anniversary. It is because of you that I have gotten to do what I love to do. It is because of you that I’ve stayed motivated to portray Alexis as truthfully as I can, which means occasionally having to defend her honor, which is not always easy. It is because of you that I’ve been able to raise Kate in the way I’ve always dreamed about. It is because of your kindness, love, and loyalty that I still want to act for you. It is all because of you. Love, me,” she wrote.
Alexis has never been a stranger to dramatic storylines and right now she is involved with a triple whammy. After finally finding happiness with Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan), he died in her bed of a mysterious drug overdose after a night of love-making. Soon after, Alexis was diagnosed with osteoporosis. She then decided to attend Neil’s funeral and got chewed out by his brother for ruining the psychiatrist’s life. This prompted alcoholic Alexis to order a double vodka at The Floating Rib. Uh-oh.
Through the years, Alexis, also known as Natasha Cassadine, has had a series of failed romances with the likes of Ned (Wally Kurth), Sonny (Maurice Benard), Ric (Rick Hearst), and especially Julian (William deVry), who put a dagger to her neck, the same dagger used to kill her own mother when she was a child.
Alexis has also battled cancer, raised two daughters, and found the one she gave up for adoption as a team. Known as The Davis Girls, Sam (Kelly Monaco), Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth), and Molly (Haley Pullos), are Alexis’s rocks and sounding boards.
During this time, Grahn took home her second Daytime Emmy (her first was for Santa Barbara in 1989) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2012 and Alexis has become one of soaps’ most beloved characters. Soap Hub congratulates Grahn for 24 years in Port Charles, we hope for many, many more.
