Higgledy piggledy hi-de-ho
Miss you, kiss you daddy-o…
Wish you’d stuck around a bit
But you were sick and had to split.
Just know that I could not be sad
When I’m this grateful you were my dad.
Love you, Chad Stuart.”
The Chad and Jeremy Facebook page Chad and Jeremy Facebook also confirmed the news. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chad Stuart, a father, a husband, a brother, a grandfather, a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and an inspiration to many,” read a statement. “Chad developed pneumonia (non-COVID related) after he was admitted to the hospital due to a fall.
“We ask for love, celebration but also space while the family adjusts to life without this incredible force,” continued the Facebook post. “The family would like to thank his fans from around the world for the outpouring of birthday wishes and gifts he received every year. Chad took the time to read each and every card. The world has lost a legend today, but his voice will continue to touch our lives through his music.”
Born on December 10, 1941, in Windermere, Westmorland, England, Stuart (born David Stuart Chadwick) attended London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. There, he met Jeremy Clyde. The two began working as the duo Chad and Jeremy in 1962. Their first hit in the United Kingdom was Yesterday’s Gone, which became a hit in the states, too. Their other popular songs include Willow Weep for Me and Before and After. Their biggest hit was A Summer Song.
The duo’s popularity as singers led to some TV appearances including a two-part guest spot on Batman in 1966. The singing duo split up in 1968. Stuart continued to work in the music industry (while Clyde became an actor). The two reunited in the early 1980s to record a new album and go on tour. They reunited again in 2003 for a PBS 60s Pop-Rock Reunion Special. Six years later, the two performed at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Stuart returned to his home in Sun Valley, Idaho in 2016.
Stuart wed Judy Shelly in 2010. His first wife, Victoria (Jill) Gelt Gibson is the mother of his three children, James, Beau, and Beth.
