The General Hospital recap for Tuesday, November 2, 2020, features an ode to Port Charles women and a history lesson of epic proportions.
Carly (Laura Wright) and Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) greeted Josslyn (Eden McCoy) on her 18th birthday and were disheartened to learn that she didn’t plan to exercise her right to vote.
Bobbie tried to inspire her granddaughter with the tale of Beatrice Eckert, an ancestor and suffragist, but Josslyn continued to flippantly dismiss the notion that her one vote would make a difference.
Josslyn joined Trina (Sydney Mikayla) at the Jerome gallery where a special exhibit – Celebrating 100 Years Of Women’s Suffrage – was being set up by many of Port Charles’s most prominent female citizens.
Authenticity nut Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), insisted on displaying some homemade candles from the Barrington estate – though she remained unaware that one of the lit wicks emitted a specially created “psychedelic” concoction.
Upon arrival, Trina and Josslyn immerse themselves in the exhibit and quibble over the importance of casting their own ballot. When the two entered and operated a century-old voting both, sitting adjacent to the fume emitting candle, they were seemingly transported back into the Port Charles of old…just in time for Election Day!
The young duo was understandably thrown by their apparent time trip, and they were even more confused by the appearance of women who bore an uncanny resemblance to the adults with whom they were familiar.
Beatrice Eckert attempted to offer her assistance to the two, as did Dr. Priscilla Johnson (Brook Kerr). Privately, Josslyn and Trina worried about how they would return to their own timeline…without disrupting the one they currently inhabited.
Compounding the teens’ trouble was the revelation that the polling station – which was to accept the female constituents vote – had been foreclosed on and shuttered. Josslyn and Trina recognized that they had been sucked back into the past to right that wrong, but that feat would be easier said than done.
First, they had to come to the defense of Beatrice when a rival social matron, Ada Hook (Maura West), has her arrested for assault. Then, they had to ensure Beatrice’s arrival at the polling station so that she could rally the gathered women into fighting for their rights.
With their goal eventually achieved – thanks in large part to the assistance of other suffragists like Lexie Brighton (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Assemblywoman Mary Butler (Leslie Charleson) – Josslyn and Trina were able to make the trip back home.
And Josslyn returns with a newfound respect for the voting process that so many women before her fought to participate in. She and Trina proudly did their part and enthusiastically greeted their mothers and other fellow female voters. They did their part to let their voices be heard for the future and health of their families. Now, it’s our turn tomorrow. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
