General Hospital Recap: Prison Escapes, Surprise Marriages, And New Nikolas

The General Hospital recap for November 4-8, 2019 features a daring flight from justice, characters learning some life lessons — the hard way — and a whole lot of questions that only the fans can answer.

General Hospital Recap: Weekly Highlights

Pentonville continued to prove its ineptitude this week when it allowed Sam (Kelly Monaco) — who has yet to even plead her case before a judge — and Cassandra Pierce (Jessica Tuck) — a career criminal bound for transport to the Hauge — to simply walk out of the prison and indulge in a spot of gardening in the town’s local park.

Cassandra Problems

Sure, one could argue that Cassandra’s placement on the work detail was arranged by a corrupt officer working on orders given by Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) but surely one rogue official in the system does not have THAT much authority. The problems with how this facility runs definitely start at the top. And the fact that both prisoners were only chaperoned by the previously mentioned on the take officer was in itself a crime.

In fact, can anyone really blame Cassandra for introducing her overseer to the business end of a shovel and taking flight to the nearest available vehicle — that just so happened to be chauffeured by the woman’s partner in evil-doing?

Although she initially believed that she was in the clear, Cassandra quickly realized that Nik was escorting her to a rendezvous with death — rather than the private airstrip like he promised — so she took the first chance she had to bolt.

And thanks to the fact that no one in Port Charles reads a newspaper, watches the news or even Googles current events, Cassandra was able to slink around undetected, infiltrate Kelly’s and saddle up next to Charlotte whom she threatened to keep quiet least Nina (Cynthia Watros) get into serious trouble.

Lessons Learned

Never underestimate a schemer backed into a corner. Julian (William deVry) is about to learn that lesson courtesy of Brad (Parr Shen) who had zero trouble throwing him under the bus and revealing to Lucas (Ryan Carnes) that his father was the mastermind behind a plot to break them up with feigned evidence of adultery on Brad’s part.

Even though she doesn’t know it yet, Alexis (Nany Lee Grahn) is also learning a very painful lesson — be wary of strangers who come bearing gifts. Even if the gift promises to help you shed a few extra pounds and put a little more pep in your step.

Because, thanks to Kendra’s (Michelle Argyris) poisoned supplement the only things Alexis is losing are her hair and the feeling in the palms of her hands — uh, oh!

General Hospital Recap: Weekly Musings

Which bit of remembered history impressed you the most this week? Laura’s (Genie Francis) rumination on her own struggle with mental health, Jax (Ingo Rademacher) and Carly (Laura Wright) reminding Josslyn (Eden McCoy) that she must protect her donated kidney (thanks Nelle!) or Jax recalling that he purposefully kept Spencer from Nikolas for the first four months of the babe’s life?

Shall we start placing our bets on who in the world Nelle’s (Chloe Lanier) mystery husband could be?

Was Laura momentarily jealous or simply stunned at the thought of Scotty (Kin Shriner) having a set of keys to Ava’s penthouse? On the subject of Ava, did she have the week’s best line when she shouted to a departing Jax, “I might be crazy, but I’m not CRAZY!”?

How has Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) resisted the urge to slap Kim (Tamara Braun) for a second or even a third time? Violence is never the answer but don’t you think it would be cathartic, for all interested parties, to just indulge in a good old fashioned catfight?

Speaking of Liz, do you agree with her opinion that Kim is not crazy but merely in need of help? Also, is it fair to strip Liz of her stature as a mother who understands the loss of a child since Jake came back years after the fact? Does all that time she spent in mourning simply mean nothing?

Does choosing to go sans makeup for their scenes speak volumes to Maura West and Kelly Monaco’s commitment and desire to fully embody a character? Or is it simply a case of the hair and makeup department hiding the goods since neither Ava nor Sam (nor even Cassandra) should be rocking a totally made-up face? General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
