While Julian Jerome may be a heartless mobster from time to time on General Hospital, the man who portrays him is a softy when it comes to animals. The longtime animal advocate had a scare recently with some kittens that broke his heart — but he now has an update that seemed like the miracle happy ending we all needed to hear!
The tale unfolded on the handsome actor’s Twitter account on May 3, in which he shared his worry about a little family of feral cats he had seen on his property that he shares with longtime love, actress Rebecca Staab (ex-Elizabeth Barrington, Port Charles).
“Sometimes mama does what nature intended. Move her babies to what she thought was a secure location. Unfortunately, it is w great sadness to say that little April 8th babies r gone. Pretty sure raccoons got to them last night. Mama is very depressed today. RIP lil ones.”
There was a ray of hope, though — which the actor pointed out in a follow-up tweet when he said, “I am hoping she moved them, but the fact she went back to their old haunt & meowed for them & went inside den looking 4 them has me VERY convinced they r gone.”
Anyone familiar with feral colonies and cat rescue, or frankly cats in general, would make the same assumption deVry did here. Needless to say, things didn’t look good for this feline family. But it’s never smart to assume anything when it comes to the animal kingdom. Staab was the first to share the good news — complete with an adorable video of deVry with a kitten!
“Look who’s back!!!!! @WilliamdeVry1 and I are euphoric!! The kittens disappeared 1 ½ weeks ago — we thought raccoons had taken them, but thankfully mama cat had just moved them. Phew!!! Both kittens in good health. Names will come soon. It’s a GOOD DAY!,” she wrote.
He shared her message and added his own, “Ya so I could tell Mama was trying to direct me to her kittens this morning. Sure enough, I found them on a ledge near her new den. Stranded. So I moved them to a new den that mama seems to love. Critter protected. She is all snuggled up w kits & very relaxed.”
It was a happy ending that everyone needs. As for deVry’s character Julian, with new episodes running out next week, he will have to wait even longer a little happiness. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
