General Hospital star Maura West managed to raise five kids over the last two-plus decades while thrilling us with a variety of daytime characters and earning a few Daytime Emmys along the way.
Now, one of those kids, 18-year-old Kate, has gone out on her own to start her college career at SUNY Purchase in New York during a historic time for the world and challenging time for college campuses across the country. But even if the United States wasn’t dealing with a pandemic, sending your child off to begin their lives is never easy and West is feeling the pain.
“My daughter is at college across the country and my momma’s heart is aching with the missing of my girl. Lots of big love to all the other parents out there who’ve said their goodbyes & sent their babies on their way. 18 years just ain’t long enough!!”
No, it isn’t. It feels like our kids grow way too fast and sometimes seem smarter and more enlightened than us, but that can be a good thing. Thankfully, West and husband Scott DeFreitas (ex-Andy, As the World Turns) still have younger children at home to keep them happy and busy.
Onscreen, Ava is getting to spend some time with her daughter, Avery, and also fit in some…ahem…quality time with her husband, Nikolas, for the very first time. Ava doesn’t get much time with Avery thanks to Sonny (Maurice Benard) taking practical ownership of her as a baby, but when she does get that time of late, it’s an extra special treat after losing her older daughter, Kiki, in 2018. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
