Now that General Hospital is finally back with new episodes after two months of classics, discussion on social media has returned full force. One particular social media caught the attention of actress Maura West and she joined in, alerting fans about something they may not have realized.
Soap Twitter is usually pretty intense as devoted fans sound off about everything under the sun about their favorite soaps. Sometimes it’s speculation about upcoming story, sadness that a favorite couple is featured more prominently, and sometimes they discuss their opinion about how stories are playing out. The latter hasn’t been able to happen for a while — but now it’s back with a vengeance.
This particular thread started on Thursday when Twitter influencer Alan Sarapa said, “There is debate on the TL [timeline] about how much leeway you give soaps right now. Here’s my position: Be forgiving of the production side since this is new. Judge away with the writing since they’ve had months to plan drama to get fans to tune back in. No grace period is coming from me.”
Fellow user Robert Burtlow responded by saying, “I won’t judge the production, I will judge the writing, it’s puzzling the shows haven’t changed any stories, writers had months to come up with story and nothing changed.”
It was after this exchange that West decided to weigh in on the subject. “Writers were furloughed, as well,” she revealed. “They were not working. I certainly didn’t expect them to write/work for free. Don’t think union would allow it, anyway… I assure you, everyone is doing their best!!! Just so happy to be back!!! xx”
As per usual with Soap Twitter, the responses to West’s thoughts were varied, with pretty much everyone appreciating her sharing what she knew. Getting fans to every agree 100% on anything may be impossible, but if they did — where would the fun in that be? General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
