Kelly Monaco is temporarily out as Sam McCall, the role she’s been playing since 2003. Word is the actress recently took a break from the soap. However, her character will remain on the canvas.
Soap vet Lindsay Hartley (ex-Theresa, Passions; ex-Arianna, Days) stepped into the role of Sam last week and will continue for a few episodes. Hartley previously filled in for Monaco in August of 2020.
Meanwhile, Monaco fans needn’t fret. The actress is already back at the studio filming.
On the exit front, Jane Elliot wrapped up her short return as Tracy Quartermaine. Ned’s mother (Wally Kurth) has returned back home to Amsterdam.
GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running soap is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running serial, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
The daytime drama outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households! From legendary Laura’s (Genie Francis) many decades on and off and back on as the show’s leading heroine to Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) exploits to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH certainly knows how to please its viewers.
It is one of four soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include Days of our Lives (DOOL), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
