Sydney Mikayla has won hearts for her tender portrayal of Trina Robinson since checking into ABC’s General Hospital in February of 2019. Soap Hub was able to nail down the busy actress, juggling life, college, and daytime television, for an exclusive Q&A.
Trina could have easily been a one-note character, but Sydney Mikayla has layered in attributes such as a fiery personality, being a loyal and protective friend, and adding a little vulnerability for good measure! Find out who inspires the young actress, what shocked her, how bacon plays a part in problem-solving, and what is coming up next.
Is there anyone who inspires you and why?
Sydney Mikayla: My dad really inspires me. His tenacity and strength to keep going in the midst of adversity is encouraging. He even started a new job during the pandemic which inspired me to try new things, too.
If you have a problem, whom do you turn to for guidance (and why them)?
Sometimes when I have a problem I go to my dog, Champion. He’s a great listener, especially if you give him bacon. My mom is a close second. It’s best if she agrees with me, otherwise, it’s back to Champ.
If you find yourself with a few hours free, what do you like to do?
When I have free time I like to SLEEP, but if I can muster up some extra energy I take a dance class and try to prepare for my upcoming college classes.
What’s the last show you binge-watched?
The last show I binge-watched was Atypical. I finished the series and I thought it had a pretty great ending.
What has been your character’s greatest challenge on General Hospital?
I think Trina’s greatest challenge is knowing who she can trust. Her willingness to see the good in people is sometimes overshadowed by the truth.
Has your character ever surprised you? If so, what was it and why?
I was definitely shocked by how rude Trina was to Curtis after she thought he was the reason her dad died. I had seen her be fiery before, but the temporary hatred she seemingly had for him took me by surprise.
How has Trina grown since she began on General Hospital?
When I started the show, Trina was just a part of the teen friend group, but now I feel she has become more of a developed character and has shown herself to be a loyal and protective friend.
Do you enjoy working with Nicholas Alexander Chavez? Should Trina take a chance on love with Spencer?
Nicholas has been great! His commitment to the character and the authenticity he portrays really makes it fun to act alongside him.
Are you nervous about juggling your soap career with college? What are you looking forward to most with college? Any idea what you’ll major in?
Honestly, I am a little nervous about juggling it all, but I have faith that everything will work out. I’m most looking forward to new experiences and making lifelong friends. As of right now, I’m a pre-sociology major, but honestly….who knows? Check-in with me in four years.
