Soap Hub Performer of the Week for GH: Laura Wright

Fate has thrown General Hospital’s Carly Corinthos, played by Laura Wright, in an ironic position. By listening to Harmony Miller’s deathbed confession, she’s in a position to get even with rival Nina Reeves. For her passionate performance as a woman in charge, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for GH on Wright.

Given that she was almost Harmony‘s (the terrific Inga Cadranel) next victim and that she’s the mother of the man (Chad Duell’s Michael Corinthos) who is seeing Harmony’s daughter Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), it made sense that Carly would be at the hospital as Harmony clung to life.

Harmony was sedated after becoming upset but that didn’t stop Carly from popping into her room to check on her. What happened next was challenging for both Wright and Cadranel. A dying Harmony revealed with her dying breaths that her daughter Willow is actually the birth daughter of Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and the half-sister of (presumed?) dead Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier).

Laura Wright’s Carly found the strength to try to calm a clearly agitated Harmony. Carly would have been justified in slamming the woman who tried to kill her but she focused on the positive, telling Harmony that she wasn’t all that bad. Harmony managed to convey to Carly a deep secret — that Willow and Nelle are twins. Slowly, Carly absorbed the magnitude of Harmony’s confession — Nina is Willow’s biological mother.

Just before Harmony flatlined, Carly promised her that Willow would be taken care of. GH has once again set the stage for numerous Carly and Nina showdowns now that, this time, it’s Carly who knows a secret about Nina’s life. Just as Nina had her reasons to keep “Mike” (AKA Sonny) from his family, we suspect so will Carly have her justifications for keeping quiet about Willow being Nina’s daughter. Laura Wright gave a sensational performance in this story beat and we can’t wait to see her next one as this story continues!
