Longtime soap viewers know that the rivalry between a good girl and a bad girl over the love of a young man is a classic tale that fans absolutely love. General Hospital did it years ago when schemer Bobbie Spencer fought good girl Laura Webber for the love of Scotty Baldwin. Now GH has done it again with an amazing younger group of actors.
General Hospital Love Triangle
The triangle of baddie Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), spoiled prince Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), and salt of the earth Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) has captured the hearts and imaginations of viewers of the ABC soap. The foundation has been laid down perfectly, with fans furious at Esme for getting in the way of Sprina.
The Internet has coined countless nicknames for Esme, proving that she is the right blend of “love to hate” that you need to keep a story like this front and center. Add to that the incredible acting talents all three of the younger actors possess, and it’s safe to say that General Hospital’s writers have managed to freshen this story in a way that truly resonates with the audience.
Spencer feels he owes Esme, but even he has caught on to her manipulative tendencies, as he longs to be the kind of man Trina can respect…and love. While nothing has crossed the line (though we all held our collective breaths as he leaned in for a kiss), it feels destined to happen. Unfortunately, Esme has access to Spring Ridge and Spencer thanks to her internship, which could give her a slight edge.
But distance does make the heart grow fonder, and while Esme can stand by her man, even in prison, she can also mess up — and seeing her desire to get access to psycho Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) was another warning sign Spencer had to have seen. Yet there’s another danger — and that’s Esme’s jealousy of Trina.
Thanks to Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) tossing Trina under the bus by telling Esme that Spencer got Trina a gift, Esme realizes her jealousy isn’t a figment of her imagination. Something is going on with those two, and she wants to nip it in the bud. You know what that means, soap fans? Messy drama! And we’re so here for it!
