General Hospital Emergency Fix: Just Pair Britt And Austin Already

It seems when General Hospital plans out a pairing on paper, the show is determined to stick to that pairing no matter what the initial fan reaction, and often initial fan reaction remains fan reaction for a long time to come.

General Hospital Got It Wrong

Case in point: Nobody liked Peter August (Wes Ramsey) and Maxie Jones (Kristen Storms) from the start, but that didn’t mean we didn’t spend several years watching Paxie and wishing it would end. And no sooner did it end than Maxie ended up with Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth).

Their relationship started pretty much the way her relationship with Peter started — by him delivering her baby in the woods. That should have been a sign for Maxie that she should not pursue a relationship with this man, but she did.

And they are boring. Very boring. Maxie and Austin have zero chemistry despite GH trying to make them happen for a year now. But there is someone out there for Austin, and he talks to her on the regular. It’s Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), and the soap just wants to ignore it so Britt can be with a man they paired her with on paper. As we have seen from Maxie and Peter and Maxie and Austin, on paper doesn’t always work.

Cody Is Not The GH Man For Britt

As he is written now, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) is not just not the man for Britt, he shouldn’t be the man for anyone until he learns some manners and how not to come off like a complete misogynist when he is around women. Not only do he and Britt have zero chemistry, but they are also quite awkward around one another because banter doesn’t work when chemistry is absent.

However, every time Britt and Austin talk, the chemistry is palpable, and they have an ease with one another the characters don’t share with others. While we’d still love to see Roger Howarth play Franco Baldwin and go through life with Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), if we have to have him as Austin, give him a pairing people want to see.

Austin and Maxie do not work. Cody and Britt REALLY do not work. However, Austin and Britt can really be something if GH would watch what appears on screen and not just what’s written on paper.
