A Critic’s Review of General Hospital: Burning Questions And Few Answers

Critic’s Review of General Hospital
 Comments

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

This is a question that we’ve asked before in this column, but recent story points force us to inquire, yet again – what now? Sure, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) has his memory back, but where does the tale go from here?

We’re not in the least bit worried that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Carly Corinthos Morgan (Laura Wright) were the one’s sitting in the limo that went boom, so it’s not as though Sonny will return to Port Charles only to find that his nearest and dearest dead.

And now that Sonny’s back, and the threat posed by Novak ((Glenn Taranto) and Buscema (Bart Tangredi) has been neutralized, there’s no real impediment to Jason and Carly seeking a quickie divorce…unless The Powers that Be have decided that Jarly is the one true endgame.

What we’re really interested in seeing, is what’s next for Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). Is redemption possible? Or will she continue to spiral, until she’s back to being the looney newborn stealer of yesteryear?

Also, is anyone else disappointed that Sonny remembered being Sonny? We were team “Mike” – or Smike, as many here on Soap Hub refer to him.

Further GH Musings

We can understand Jasper “Jax” Jacks’ (Ingo Rademacher) disinterest in saving Sonny’s life, but do real-life firefighters just stand around patiently waiting for people trapped inside burning buildings to die? And did we even see them attempt to put out the raging inferno?

* What precipitated Madame Wu’s (Lydia Look) change of heart? Was it purely driven by good business sense, or is she a sucker for a real love story?

* Why were neither one of Jason’s sons present at his wedding? Do they even know that he’s marrying Carly?

* When it became abundantly clear that Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) wasn’t going to answer her phone, why did Jax not simply text her?

* Aside from dragging the storyline out as much as humanly possible (and Lord knows the writers at General Hospital can drag out a story) what was the real reason for Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) staying behind and fighting off those facilities guards? There was plenty of time for him and Nurse Chloe (Phoebe Kuhlman) to both escape.

What do you think? Post a comment!

* Did Briana Nicole Henry’s decision to leave the soap perchance take the writers by surprise? It sure seemed like they were building to a Jordan/Curtis/Portia triangle, with Jordan possessing the knowledge that Portia’s (Brook Kerr) keeping a secret about Trina Robinson’s (Sydney Mikayla) paternity.

* Wait, it was Shawn Butler (Sean Blakemore), and not TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) who phoned Molly (Haley Pullos) and told her about Jordan’s predicament? What does that say about the state of the young couple’s relationship?

* What’s the deal with Stella Henry (Vernee Watson)? Wasn’t she suppose to be moving in with Curtis (Donnell Turner) post-stroke? Did he just leave her on her lonesome to go off sleuthing with Portia?

* Best Keeping With Character Moment: Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) being put out that neither the Quartermaine family nor Austin Holt-Gatlin (Roger Howarth) approached her about representing them in their upcoming legal battle.

* Couple That GH Is Propping That We’re Still Not Feeling: Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).

* Disappointment of the Week: Not one episode featured Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) or her jailer, Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy). Here’s hoping that the writers haven’t forgotten about these two.

* Exchange of the Week:

Harmony: “As you recall, I had a bad feeling about Esme.”
Alexis: “And you have such good instincts about people?”

* Dear viewers, what say you – do Maxie and Austin pass their chemistry test? If not, who would YOU most like to see Maxie and Austin paired opposite?
