When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
I don’t expect a lot from General Hospital. Not anymore, anyway. I don’t even need Dan and Chris/Chris and Dan to make the storylines make sense. And yet, I can’t help but be disgusted over the decision to link Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) to the late Dominique Stanton by way of, I’m assuming, illicit pregnancy and abandonment.
Fans of old can say a lot about Dominique, but you’ll not find anyone who’d agree that she was the type to let her offspring mature in relative poverty – not after that horrible husband of hers had been dispensed with. In her last storyline, following the diagnosis of her fatal brain tumor, Dominique made it her mission to leave Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) with a child, which was achieved thanks to Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) serving as surrogate.
If Dominique was so gung-ho to leave Scott with a ready-made family, why wouldn’t she have introduced him to Cody? Oh, that’s right! Because Cody didn’t exist, and this is a ridiculous rewrite of canon – something that General Hospital honchos Dan and Chris/Chris and Dan are champions at.
If only these two would concentrate their considerable efforts on honoring their shows history and actually seeing a storyline or two through to its natural conclusion. Perhaps that’s asking too much.
* Having taken the General Hospital gruesome twosome to task in the paragraphs above, I must confess that they did surprise me, in a good way, by having it be Jordan “I Want To Do It Better This Time Around” Ashford (Tanisha Harper) who not only deduced Portia Robinson’s (Brook Kerr) scheme but became a willing participant in it.
Do I think that this goes against Jordan’s grain…no I don’t. When push comes to shove, Jordan can always be counted on to let justice prevail even if the rules of law must be circumnavigated.
* How do I love Kristina Corinthos-Davis and the divine Lexi Ainsworth? Let me attempt to count the innumerable ways…and how refreshing to see a character with such an adult – and pragmatic – take on the Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard)/Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) coupling. Maybe she could teach Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Josslyn Jack (Eden McCoy) a thing or two.
And speaking of Michael, what’s up with him always assuming that someone (first Sonny and now Ava) has done something to hurt/upset Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen)? Maybe she’s finally realized what a chump she’s shackled herself to, and she’s having a good cry about it Michael, how about that?! Huh? Huh?! … Of course, you and I know that’s not the case, but a columnist can dream, can’t he.
* It’s taken some time, but I can finally, FINALLY say that the woman I saw on my screen Wednesday, August 10, 2022 was the real deal Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). Gosh, I sure have missed her. It’s been ages.
* Was that personal growth I saw from Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez)? It looks good on him. Let’s hope it’s a look that he keeps.
