Cyrus has been arrested and is headed to prison. Peter is apparently dead, after plunging down a flight of stairs. In a one-week span, General Hospital has delivered comeuppance upon its most despicable characters. It’s been a long-awaited payoff for viewers, but can the soap survive losing top villains Cyrus and Peter?

Driving Forces

Jeff Kober and Wes Ramsey, the two actors who portray diabolical duo, Cyrus and Peter, had been driving the drama in Port Charles for over a year. They were both menacing and evil; justifying their unscrupulous deeds to achieve their end goals. And there was hell to pay for anyone who got in their way.

Peter orchestrated Drew’s (Billy Miller) fatal plane crash and Andre’s (Anthony Montgomery) beat down and murdered Franco (Roger Howarth) in cold blood. Cyrus kidnapped teens Trina (Sydney Mikayla) and Cameron (William Lipton) to lure Taggert (Réal Andrews) into a death trap and shot and killed his own henchmen.

From Drama to Dullsville

Take the two vile villains out of the mix and things are suddenly, dare we say, dull on General Hospital. Who’s going to stir the pot? Who’s going to keep the good guys, like Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry), Laura (Genie Francis), and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), fighting for order and justice?

Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) baby daddy drama is suddenly solved (well it would be if people knew Peter’s fate). Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason (Steve Burton) will no longer have to fight for control of the town’s mob families. And Liesl (Kathleen Gati) won’t ever get to exact revenge against Peter after he framed her for his crimes.

What’s Next?

Perhaps the soap should have thought twice before wrapping up both scoundrels’ plots in the same week. Keeping one going would have afforded the show’s writers a chance to slowly introduce a new dastardly foe into the mix, someone who could have picked up the slack for either the exiting Peter or Cyrus.

But right now, with it looking like the end of the line for both villains, the fear and drama factor on General Hospital is looking pretty darn tame. But knowing this show, it won’t stay that way for long. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
