It’s been quite some time since General Hospital announced that All My Children alum Cameron Mathison would be joining the cast, but we finally have all the details about who he’ll be playing, his first airdate, and the circumstances surrounding his character’s (re)debut!
As exclusively revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Mathison will be taking on the role of Drew Cain, which was previously helmed by Daytime Emmy award winner Billy Miller.
On taking over from such a beloved actor, Mathison said, “It may be a little bit scary…I feel like there’s enough that has been sort of untapped. There is an opportunity for me to bring my own take and version of this great character.”
Fans can expect to hear Cameron Mathison’s voice come Monday, August 16, when Drew reaches out to his former bride, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), for help.
Billy Miller first appeared as Drew onscreen in October 2014, though the amnesiac was initially known only as Jake Doe. His budding romance with Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) was torpedoed when he was misidentified as a plastic surgery-altered Jason Morgan (Steve Burton); subsequently, “Jason” and Sam reunited, re-married, and welcomed a baby girl into their midst.
With the return of the actual Jason Morgan in 2017, came the revelation that the man bearing his name was really his twin brother, Andrew, who had been sold at birth to Betsy Frank, and raised – for a time – alongside future serial killer Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth).
Further investigation yielded a career as a Navy SEAL, a long-ago love affair with Dr. Kim Nero (Tamara Braun), which produced a son, Oscar, and a kidnapping arranged by David Archer AKA Shiloh and Peter August (Wes Ramsey) on the orders of Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers). Drew has been presumed dead since the downing of his private airplane – courtesy of an assassin hired by Peter – in 2019.
