It was November of 1990 when Kelly Ripa made her All My Children debut as Hayley Vaughan when she showed up in Pine Valley to live with her Uncle Pork Chop, Trevor Dillon (James Kiberd).
Clad in a jet black wig and a leather jacket, giving us her punk rock look, Hayley was eventually revealed to be Adam Chandler’s long-lost daughter he never knew he had and when she took off that wig, she became the show’s beautiful blonde heroine for years.
And for 30 years, Ripa has been an ABC mainstay. First, as Hayley, and then as the host of LIVE, ABC’s longtime morning show, starting as Regis Philbin’s co-host and eventually lasting through a string of replacement co-hosts. Ripa also starred on the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith for several years and this morning, ABC gives us an All My Children reunion, a LIVE reunion, and a Hope and Faith reunion to celebrate Ripa’s three decades with the network.
Expect to see soap greats Eva LaRue (Maria), Susan Lucci (Erica), Finola Hughes (Anna/Alex, now playing the same roles on General Hospital), Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Walt Willey (Jackson), and Dondre Whitfield (Terrence) on hand to help Ripa celebrate her All My Children years. We will also see Faith Ford and Ted McGinley, her Hope & Faith co-stars.
During her years on LIVE, viewers have gotten to know Ripa and her family well. We’ve heard the stories of her raising her children with husband Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children), and she even revealed her second pregnancy on-air when a psychic figured out she was expecting. Plus, we’ve heard so many parenting stories along the way we’ve felt like we have been part of the Ripa-Consuelos family. So, tune in today and celebrate with Ripa, while catching up with your favorite soap stars on what should be a pretty happy day.
