Against General Hospital Medical Advice: Will Sonny Go Off His Meds
Sonny Corinthos was diagnosed with bipolar disorder several years ago on General Hospital. His mental illness isn’t why he kills, blackmails, and extorts people for a living. Those are his good qualities.
Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) bipolar disorder causes him to sometimes have sad thoughts, which keep him from happily killing, blackmailing, and extorting. It’s why he takes medication. So he can continue to be himself.
But now that his life is falling apart, and both Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) are estranged from him, will he spiral so far out of control that he’ll turn his back on his prescription? What almost 2,000 viewers are expecting:
If he does, it will only bring him and Carly closer together, 46% of General Hospital fans predict. Carly loves it when Sonny is in a weakened state, and she has to take care of him. And he has to do whatever she says. A depressed Sonny is a Sonny who isn’t sneaking off to see Nina. And that’s a Sonny that Carly can get behind.
Nina will be the one to save him, 30% of the audience disagrees. If Sonny stops taking his medication, then he is liable to lose control of his criminal empire. Once that’s gone, he’ll be ready to become a simple, humble SMike again, and then he and Nina will live happily ever after.
It was a pretty even split, as 24% of fans believe that even if Carly doesn’t take Sonny back over this, she’ll still take care of him and make sure he gets back on his regimen. He’s still the father of her children, and she wants him to be well. Besides, how will Port Charles and the extended mob world ever manage to get by without him?
