A Critic’s Review of General Hospital: Villains And Vengeance

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

The one and only thing that I am looking forward to next week as far as General Hospital is concerned is seeing Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) finally sticking it to Peter August (Wes Ramsey)…and by sticking it to Peter, I mean stabbing him, repeatedly with anything pointy. And the gorier and more painful the death the better.

And before you say, hey mean nasty critic, this is General Hospital and not a slasher, let me say that I was watching yet another daytime soaper – this one being NBC’s Days of our Lives – when a character took a bullet to the throat and proceeded to spit/choke out about a pint of the red stuff, so I know that GH can get away with corkscrewing Peter ala the villain from The Girl on the Train.

I, and you, have been forced to suffer this petulant man child posing as a big bad for four years now, and it’s high time that that is rewarded with his suffering.

The one thing that I do not want to see, is Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) storming onto the scene and being the one to take Peter out. I could maybe, maybe stomach Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) being the one to do it, but not Felicia.

This story needs to be about Maxie taking control of her own destiny and ridding herself of the beast she once loved…it should not serve as a General Hospital redemption story for one of serialdom’s worst mothers.

Further GH Musings

* File This Under, “That’s Just Dumb” — Despite what the General Hospital writers might think, one can not drive from New York to Switzerland. I’d tell you all the reasons why, but that’s not my job…Equally frustrating, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) apparently doesn’t exist as far as the US Government is concerned, and yet she has a driver’s license, attended college, worked as a teacher, is now enrolled in a nursing program, and presumably pays taxes yearly.

* Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) says that she doesn’t want to see Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) break up, and yet her actions tell a different story.

And speaking of Nina, we can all see, from about a mile away, that Willow will soon be revealed to be her daughter, yes? Joan who? Don’t even try to trick me Dan and Chris/Chris and Dan.

* Please General Hospital, just make Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) a bona fide couple already. What’s the hold-up? Is it lack of a squish name? Blase. Harrmaine. Cynn. Cook. There, there are four perfectly good ones.

* With so much mention of the “unseasonable heatwave,” hitting Port Charles, coupled with talk of the Ice Princess, are we to suspect that a reverso of the Cassadine’s original plot to freeze the world is at hand?

If so, who do we suspect is the mastermind behind the scheme? It doesn’t appear to be Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy)…he seems just as bewildered as the rest of us. Might Tony Cassadine (Andre Landzaat) or Alexandra Quartermaine (Renee Anderson) or even Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos) be thawed and up to no good?

Also, and to be clear, the Ice Princess itself was not the cause of the snow that descended upon the New York hamlet. The base that the diamond set upon contained a hidden compartment in which the formula for “carbonic snow” rested. That formula was really the prize the villainous clan sought.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Port Charles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on GH spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
