When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
Dear General Hospital, where’s the actual drama? Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs) and Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) were locked in the Jerome Gallery’s storage room for all of five minutes; the “frantic” search for Leo lasted about as long. Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) was hit by the bombshell that his father is alive and well, and absolutely zero fallout has occurred.
Peter August (Wes Ramsey) continues to emerge victorious. Harpy Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) continues to harp about how awful Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) is with zero self-awareness. Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) continues to hide his still lingering feelings for his Nixon Falls lady.
And there has been zero forward momentum on the Who is Esme Prince (Kristen Avery Pohl) front, and the shadow of the Jeff Webber story has all but been forgotten – as if you really thought General Hospital was going to give the all ways fabulous, all ways undervalued Rebecca Herbst an actual storyline.
Instead of letting drama and conflict naturally flow from some of these events, the writers seemed content with just compounding the labyrinthine plot, ignoring developments, or simply wrapping them up in a nice bow.
Instead of coming clean to Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) about Bailey and Louise being one and the same, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) are going to play happy families.
Instead of having Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) confront Esme with his (obvious) suspicion that she was responsible for imperiling Gladys and Sasha, they settled with him giving her the side-eye.
And apparently, Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) and Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) are totes cool now. She’s accepting of the fact that her son (most likely) has a developmental disorder, and he’s over her macking on Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers).
* Couldn’t the General Hospital scriptwriters figure out how to work in the fact that Leo is Ava Jerome Cassadine’s (Maura West) nephew?
* Smartest Woman In The Room: Phyllis Caulfield (Joyce Guy). She knows that Carly is a wrong ‘un through and through, and she’s only met her twice that we know.
