When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

I smell a rat. I call shenanigans. I don’t for one minute believe that Peter August (Wes Ramsey), the scourge of General Hospital, is really and truly dead. Sure, I heard the word autopsy get bandied about, but that still means nothing to me.

I have no doubt that the minute I let my guard down, when I finally indulge in my own libation-soaked celebration of the villain’s passing that he will return. Fool me once Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris, shame on you. Fool me twice…

Still, I must admit that the aftermath of Peter’s supposed killing brought about some dynamo scenes…but none more so than the ones starring Kirsten Storms and Amanda Setton. I wasn’t left a tear-stained mess after Maxie suggested that Brook Lynn be Bailey Louise’s “mama,” YOU were left a tear-stained mess after Maxie suggested that Brook Lynn be Bailey Louise’s “mama.”

But boy do I have some complaints. The one thing I begged of General Hospital was to let Maxie be the one to end Peter’s reign of terror. Well, in truth I begged two things…I really, really wanted it to be Maxie who struck the killing blow, but I agreed to let Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) pinch-hit – as long as Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) stayed far, far away from the storyline.

However, Dan and Chris/Chris and Dan decided to have it be Felicia who got Peter started on his journey to the upper room. As far as I was aware, this was supposed to be a storyline about Maxie taking matters into her own hands – NOT a redemption story for one of General Hospital’s worst mothers. I really feel that Maxie was done a disservice here.

I also feel that the dissemination of the news of Peter’s fate was all wrong. What transpired on-screen was Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) filling Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) in while Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) took it upon herself to tell Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst). I am pretty sure Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) should have been the bearer of such glad tidings to those particular individuals.

But wait, there can’t be a storyline on General Hospital that doesn’t involve the spouses Corinthos, no matter how tangential they may do it. So, Drew had to forgo telling the woman that loves him like a mother and the widow of his pseudo-brother in order to tell Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright). And because neither one of them have ever heard of a telephone, they had to drive straight over to Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse – where they catch him with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) – to tell him the news.

What’s that you say? It was all just a contrivance in order to prop the inevitable Drew/Carly and Sonny/Nina pairings? Yea…that sounds about right. General Hospital is mostly contrivances these days.

Further GH Musings

* I get that Carly is all kinds of pissed – and I honestly don’t blame her for feeling that way – but where does she get off asking for Sonny’s house? She owns at least one other property, not to mention a multi-star hotel. Nervy that one.

* You Win Some: Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn finally share their first, long-awaited kiss…You Lose Some: General Hospital Spoilers reveal that Brook Lynn makes tracks for Bensonhurst.
