You loved him as Jake Ballard, Olivia Pope’s love interest on Scandal, and many other shows. Now, actor Scott Foley is coming back to television in a brand-new series, which is set overseas against a backdrop of danger, international intrigue, and possible romance!
Foley plays FBI Agent Will Chase (codename: Whiskey Cavalier), fresh off a breakup, and is paired up professionally with CIA agent Francesca ‘Frankie’ Trowbridge (codename: Fiery Tribune), played by Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead).
When the two aren’t busy saving the world, they banter – a lot! Will the back and forth lead to romance? Stay tuned to find out!
Whiskey Cavalier debuts on Wednesday, February 27 at 10 p.m. ET and Scandal fans won’t want to miss next week’s episode when Bellamy Young (Mellie) guest stars.
The name of the series is your character’s code name; why not have it be Lauren’s character?
I’m a producer! (Laughs) I sold the show! I [actually] don’t know what the final idea to call the show was, but one of the things I said early on was that someone is going to want to change the name. I wanted to keep it as it is because it’s different.
This show is very reminiscent of Hart To Hart, Moonlighting, etc. Were you a fan of those programs?
I loved those shows! I remember watching Matt Houston on Friday nights with my mom. I also watched Remington Steele, Simon & Simon, and Moonlighting.
A lot of those shows were not necessarily about the cases but rather the relationship between the leads.
Yes. I could care less about the crime. As long as [what I’m watching] keeps me going from the first act to the final one. It’s all about the relationship.
How would you describe the chemistry you have with Lauren Cohan?
Chemistry is just compatibility and …continue reading on the next page –>
Chemistry is just compatibility and ease of relationship around one another. Lauren and I spent a lot of time together. The show was fairly demanding of our time and energy, and it helps that we don’t get on each other’s nerves and we are respectful of each other’s process through, you know, day and night of shooting this thing.
Is the series going to be serialized or will episodes wrap up each week?
Both. The majority of the episodes will be self-contained. I liked the idea of having a procedural nature related to the crimes but having a serialized nature to the relationship.
Speaking of relationships, a lot of Scandal fans thought if anyone was going to win Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) heart other than Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) it was going to be Jake!
Me, too! I’ve been doing this a long time. I never had a better experience [than I did on Scandal]. It was a dream job, not a bad apple in the cast. Shonda Rhimes (series creator/executive producer) is not just a friend, but she runs a great show.
What did you learn from her?
I’ve learned it’s okay to burn through the story. She was a pioneer in that.
TV is seeing revivals galore these days and you’ve been on many series. Which program from your past would you like to see come back?
Scandal! No doubt about it! I would work with all those people from Shonda to Josh Malina (David)!
