Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green – theirs has been a difficult marriage full of all the requisite ups and downs. It’s also been a teachable moment for the latter. “[It’s] hard. It’s work, I think for anyone… you just take it day by day.”
Upon his split from actress Vanessa Marcil (with whom he shares a son, Kassius), Green was resolute in his decision to, “play the filed for a little while.” Enter Fox.
“She was doing ‘Hope and Faith’ at the time here in New York with Kelly Ripa and Faith Ford, and I came and did an episode of it. I met Megan on that, and she was really young. And I was like, ‘This isn’t this. This can’t [expletive] happen. This isn’t going to happen. No way.’
“And so I left, and she was just really persistent. And thank God.” And while it wasn’t exactly love at first sight for a relationship-shy Green, for Fox, it was something altogether fantastical – even if she had no idea of the reputation that preceded her newfound crush.
“I didn’t know who he was from 90210, but I liked him right away. Everyone was around the monitor watching a scene, and Brian accidentally touched my leg. I remember literal electricity shooting through me and out of me from every direction. It was like magic.”
Green admits to “pushing her away early on, because I was like, ‘I don’t want a relationship.’ And then she was like, ‘Well, cool, I’m going to go date.’ I was like, ‘Wait a second, I didn’t say go date please!’ So then that’s when I realized I was… really into this situation, [because] the thought of that kills me.”
Age – It’s Just A Number
Another hurdle that had to be traversed was the 12-year age difference. According to Fox, she had to convince the 30-year-old Green that “I was slightly more responsible and well-spoken and had other things to bring to the table besides being 18.”
On-again, Off-again
By November 2006, Fox and Green were engaged and looking forward to planning a small intimate wedding. However, those plans were put on hold, by mutual decision, three years later.
At the time, Fox explained, “Marriage isn’t a realistic goal for someone who is 23. I just wanna concentrate on becoming a better person before I try to commit to being someone else’s wife.”
Within a few months, the couple was back together again. In June 2010, while on a Hawaiian vacation, Green officially re-proposed. Fox enthusiastically accepted but during the subsequent celebration, the engagement ring was lost on the resort’s beach!
Soon after, Fox insisted to Us Weekly that it would be “years” before she and Green actually made the trek down the aisle. “I’m going to be 44 when I get married!”
And yet, the ceremony was held two weeks later at the Four Seasons Hualalai on Hawaii’s Big Island. Green’s son Kassius, who served as best man, was the only invited guest.
The Brood Expands
On September 27, 2012, Fox and Green welcomed Noah Shannon into the world. Another boy, Bodhi Ransom followed two years later.
Breaking Up to Make Up
In August 2015, Fox filed for divorce. In the complaint, she alleged “irreconcilable differences” but sources told People magazine that it was an imbalance in the duo’s professional careers that proved the biggest sticking point.
Likewise, a supposed family source added, “They had several conflicts that led to the divorce. Megan worked a lot last year, and she continues to work a lot. When she is away, Brian stays with the kids. Before they filed…they had disagreements about this situation.”
But hope for reconciliation was right around the corner. In April of the next year, Fox confirmed that she was indeed expecting her and Green’s third child and the announcement proved to be the impetus for a reunion. The aptly named Journey River was born in August 2016.
Three years later, with their union firmly back on track, Green imparted the two key ingredients that he and Fox discovered is necessary for every healthy marriage.
Communication – “We discuss everything. We try to be as open and transparent as possible with each other. The more we talk about things and through things, the more we understand each other.”
And avoidance of competition. “The team can always produce more than a single person.”
