Tyler Christopher and Eva Longoria’s romance and marriage were conducted with so much secrecy that they were long divorced by the time their fellow celebrities and their viewing public fully understood the true extent of the relationship.
The exact moment that former General Hospital star Christopher (ex-Nikolas) and Longoria (who had been Isabella on The Young and the Restless) first met is a fact known only to the former couple themselves.
According to Christopher, the coupling was made possible because of his prior involvement with fellow GH co-star, Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda), to whom he was once engaged. “It was in that relationship where I really came out [of myself]. Since then, I’ve kept growing.”
Marcil could technically also explain how the two possibly met. When Marcil wasn’t available and GH wanted to write off Ingo Rademacher as Jax with a possible Brenda reunion, Longoria, who resembles the actress, stepped in — and they only shot her from behind. Could that be when they met? Or was their relationship how the cameo came about?
Going Courting
In an explanation of his and Longoria’s courting habits, Christopher said that “we dated, then we stayed friends then dated again.” After a few consecutive “on” months, the couple eloped to Las Vegas. The ceremony was held on January 20, 2002, and witnessed by Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Adjustments
By the couple’s own admission, the newlywed way of life was tough. “[Being married] is harder than we thought,” Longoria declared. The two apparently found it difficult to adjust to the other’s lifestyle.
Tyler was hot-natured and his bride cold. He left the water running while brushing his teeth and she conserved it. “We both have our habits that we won’t give up,” Longoria revealed in an interview one year after saying, “I do.”
She also added that marriage was, “All about going from selfish to selfless and constantly thinking about the other person.”
Nearly one year later — January 19, 2004, to be exact — the Christopher marriage was brought to an end. In the immediate aftermath of the divorce, and for many subsequent years, neither party offered comment.
Finally, in September of 2008, Longoria broke her self-imposed silence and offered a few candid remarks about her ex and their brief union. “He was a lovely man, but I was very young. I didn’t know who I was, and I was still struggling as an actor. I was a terrible wife.”
Eight years later, with a second dissolved marriage and a third husband by her side, Longoria revealed that she lived with no regrets about her past relationships. “No, I think every relationship is a path to where you are today. Every wrong turn led you to the spot where you are…I wouldn’t change anything – never!”
