After being off the airwaves for more than a decade, Will & Grace raced to its premiere of the sitcom reboot with the cast’s quippy (read: perfect) comic timing still intact.
The cold opening showed Will and Grace’s mad game skills (they were playing Head’s Up) were just as impressive as always. Karen and Jack’s lackadaisical attitudes were, as well.
The meat of the sitcom’s storyline focused on political ploys which shifted back and forth from super liberal to quasi conservative, the latter due to romantic leanings and job opportunities that didn’t seem to be in play with the characters’ official party lines.
Politics aside, Will (Eric McCormack), Grace (Debra Messing), Karen (Megan Mullally) and Jack (Sean Hayes) were all still on BFF foursome level. Grace, having divorced Leo (Harry Connick Jr.), was once again using Will’s address as her own.
Will had split from Vince (Bobby Cannavale) and was prowling in his own particular way for another partner/hookup.
Jack was living across the hall and still apparently trying to find himself and Karen was still rich and still preferred a rather boozy, pill-driven lifestyle with her prominent rack very much in evidence.
Yes, everything was copacetic in the Will & Grace world, proving the sitcom still appeals, at least to its original fans. As for the others? Time will tell.
Will & Grace airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
