Pamela Sue Martin, best known for her role as Fallon Carrington on the original Dynasty, is coming back to television! And she’s playing a role in a series that she has a deep connection to!
Prior to playing TV’s tempestuous Fallon, Martin played the title role of the female sleuth in The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, which ran on ABC in 1977.
Now, Martin has been cast in a role in the reboot pilot, Nancy Drew, for The CW. She’ll play Harriet Grosset, a psychic, who assists Nancy (Kennedy McCann) in the investigation of a murder.
Also in the pilot is Freddie Prinze, Jr. as Carson Drew, Nancy’s estranged father. Leah Lewis will appear as George, Nancy’s pal. In the original series, George was played by Susan Pratt, who went on to appear as nurse Annie Logan on General Hospital.
The new series is set soon after Nancy has graduated from high school. Her plan is to leave for college but a family tragedy and, of course, a mystery keep Nancy in town.
Will the third time be the charm for a Nancy Drew reboot? Two others in recent years were developed yet neither made it to the airwaves. This one might not either but waiting to find out shouldn’t take too long. The CW will announce its fall TV season lineup in May.
It’s a smart move for the reboot to capitalize on the popularity of Martin. Dynasty fans would certainly welcome her to the reboot of that show, though she couldn’t play an older Fallon like Larry Hagman played an older J.R. on the Dallas reboot. Dynasty didn’t move forward in time — rather they simply recast new actors in the familiar roles.
Still, she might have made a wonderful Alexis, a role recently vacated by Nicolette Sheridan. Considering the character had her face melted off in a fire definitely leaves it open for someone new to be in place when the bandages come off.
