This season, Bachelor in Paradise is full of surprise twists. For the first time ever, it’s mixed with younger and golden Bachelor/Bachelorette contestants. Now, the series is throwing money into the mix. Fans fear this will ruin the franchise.

The BIP Change

Host Jesse Palmer warned the contestants that “everything is going to change” this season, and boy, did it. The remaining couples will compete for a $500,000 cash prize. They will put their relationships to the test. This format is similar to Bachelor Pad, which ran for three seasons on ABC. It was cancelled and replaced by Bachelor in Paradise, which is currently in its tenth season.

On the Monday, August 4 episode, Palmer announced that there will be no more new arrivals. The couples that remain will have to work on their relationships. Each of the challenges will put their relationships to the test. In Monday’s episodes, the couples took part in an intense poker match that sent one couple home.

Bachelor Nation Fans Decry Change

On Reddit, Bachelor Nation fans are outraged over this shocking twist. They argued that it would destroy the premise of the franchise. The original poster wrote, “People are gonna go on those shows without the intention to make it to the end, and instead with the intention to make it to Paradise. And with 500k, I can’t even blame them. That is way too much money to offer; it’s ridiculous.”

Other fans are threatening to boycott the franchise. “No reason to watch it anymore if that’s what they are doing now. Shit show before, worse now. Sucks. Damn. I liked my guilty pleasure until now. I’m tapping out. Damn,” one person wrote. “Yeah. They don’t even care that people are not there for love. Even before the money, people were open about just trying to get a rose, and that’s it,” another person argued.

However, not all fans think this change will ruin the franchise. One person argued, “I mean, people are already going on the show simply to get famous/boost their social media presence.” Someone else noted that this twist could make BIP more interesting, writing, “If it’s actually love, it’ll happen regardless. I find the New Bachelor in Paradise incredibly entertaining. I laugh out loud with each episode. It’s not that serious.”

Bachelor in Paradise allowed former contestants a second, third, or fourth chance at finding love again. However, season 9 had the lowest ratings in history. ABC put the show on a brief hiatus before revamping it with a new premise and location. What are your thoughts on this change? Do you think this will remove love from the equation?
