Angela Bassett took part in the epic crossover event. On Thursday, March 20, 9-1-1 crossed over with Doctor Odyssey. Sergeant Athena Grant had to investigate someone who stole art and jewelry aboard the Odyssey. Bassett revealed what it was like to work with the cast.
Love Fest
There’s obviously a “love fest” brewing on the medical drama. Fans are dying to see what unfolds from the love triangle involving Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale). The “love fest” continues behind the scenes. The cast is as close as they come across on the show. Bassett talked about the “love fest” she experienced in an interview with PEOPLE.

“It was just a love fest. It was certain times I had to, with the guys, especially, I would have to walk away, center myself because they have so much wonderful energy and so much to say,” she explained. “They are just a delight. You have to remember that we’re working here. We’re working, and I would have a monologue of something to say, and I just couldn’t play with them until the action. I would have to walk away just for a brief second to center myself, but it was a lot of fun.”
There were times when Bassett was overwhelmed by the energy on the set. However, she had a “great” experience. Bassett exclaimed that it “was just a great set to be on.” She could see similarities between this cast and the 9-1-1 cast. “The hours are long. But it was such a group of wonderful and talented individuals,” she added.

Bassett Shares Her Secrets
The Black Panther star has been on 9-1-1 for the past eight years. She stars opposite Peter Krause, who plays her TV husband Bobby Nash. The ABC series is a massive hit. Each episode trends on social media as it airs live. Bassett shared her secrets for working on a successful show.
It’s allowed the cast to “hone your skills” and “to be forever grateful.” Taking on the role of Athena has also taught her to “lead by example.” All it comes down to is consistency. “Be consistent. We [are] in our eighth year. So you have to be consistent,” Bassett concluded.
