Ellen Pompeo isn’t a doctor, but she plays one on TV, and Meredith Grey is arguably one of the most well-known fictional physicians out there.
Ellen Pompeo Makes Video Plea
Over her 15 years on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Pompeo has made a multitude of friends in the healthcare industry, and many have been reaching out to her this week for her help in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an Instagram post to her 7.3 million-plus followers, Pompeo noted she was getting calls from nurses, doctors, and even the New York governor’s office, asking her to urge her fans to stay home.
“Healthcare professionals are at their wits’ end and starting to die. We’re not doing enough,” she passionately pleads to those watching her Instagram video. “Just please, everybody, stay home.”
She also begged everyone to reach out to anyone they know who isn’t staying home and following the critical orders, which are saving lives.
Practice Social Distancing
Currently, there are more than 1 million cases of coronavirus worldwide, with 245,000 in the U.S. alone, including more than 6,000 deaths. Infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has stated unequivocally that social distancing saves lives, and Pompeo is stressing that to her fans.
“If you know someone who is not taking this seriously and isn’t staying home, please talk to them,” Pompeo said. “That’s all they are asking us to do, it’s not that hard.”
In an earlier post, Pompeo thanked the doctors, nurses, and all healthcare workers for all they were doing in an “appreciation post,” noting that most people have the privilege to stay at home and self-quarantine to stay healthy and thanking them for being on the “frontlines.”
“From me and my family to all of you, thank you, we appreciate you, love you, stay safe, nurses rock, doctors rock, and anyone who works in a hospital or the healthcare industry, we love you, you rock, stay safe.”
