Grey’s Anatomy Onscreen Couple Champions First Responders First Fund

While Grey’s Anatomy fans are counting down the minutes to tonight’s season finale, an episode that will surely have more twists and turns in the love triangle of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Tom Koracick (Greg Germann), two of those stars want you to keep in mind the real-life healthcare workers on the front lines treating those with the coronavirus.

Grey’s Anatomy Stars Reach Out

On her Instagram page, Raver thanked these workers for their “selflessness, their bravery and for being there for us always—especially now in this time of our greatest need. We are in awe of your commitment, your courage and your passion.”

She added that while the public is being asked to do their part by “stepping back,” these brave workers are “stepping forward” at the risk of their own health and safety, and urges them to take care of themselves as well.

“Taking care of yourself, even in small ways, is the most important thing you can do to care for others,” Raver says. “We love you, we are here for you—thank you!”

On her page, Raver posts information about the #FirstRespondersFirst Fund, which provides healthcare workers with the supplies, equipment and resources they need to safely continue the fight. Text FIRST to 50555 or visit thriveglobal.com/firstresponders to donate.

Doing Their Part For First Responders

Germann also took to Instagram in support of the fund and posted his own video, though one with some humor thrown in. Taking notes while looking at a computer screen offering “brain surgery for beginners,” he jokes that he’s not a real doctor and since he’s sheltering at home, he doesn’t even play one on TV anymore.

“But, there are thousands of real-life nurses and doctors and EMTs and hospice workers and community health workers and social service workers risking their health and safety for you and me and all of us every single day on the front lines of this crisis,” he says. “That’s why I am supporting First Responders First Fund.”

He explains in addition to providing all the supplies healthcare workers need throughout the crisis, they are also helping arrange child care and nutritious meals and urges people to donate.

“We need them and they need us, and we all need each other,” Germann says. “We will get through this together.”

So, before tuning in tonight to see what’s certainly going to be a wedding (attempt?) to remember, take some time to support real-life heroes. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
