Grey’s Anatomy Alumna Kate Walsh Is Celebrating Her Birthday

She’s played everything from an overly indulgent real estate agent to a sassy detective, to a world-class neonatal surgeon with a penchant for sabotaging personal relationships, and now Kate Walsh is taking on another role – birthday girl.

And that’s because she was born on October 13, 1967, in San Jose, California, which means that this much-beloved actress is turning 53 years old today! Post high school graduation, Walsh moved from her hometown of Tucson, Arizona, to New York City where she joined a comedy troupe – Burn Manhattan – and supported herself by waitressing at establishments such as Burger King and Dairy Queen.

She eventually tried her hand at modeling which led to a successful career overseas, particularly in Japan. Walsh again relocated, this time to Chicago, where she honed her performing skills at the Piven Theatre Workshop. She made her professional debut in the National Public Radio production of Born Guilty.

In 1996, she made her film and television debut on Normal Life and Homicide: Life on the Street respectively. On the small screen, Walsh appeared in episodes of  Swift Justice and Law & Order, and between 1997 and 2002 she recurred on The Drew Carey Show.

Walsh’s other TV credits include Cupid, Turks, The Mike O’Malley Show, The Fugitive, and The Mind of the Married Man. Her feature film credits include Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Part II, Under the Tuscan Sun, Kicking & Screaming, Bewitched, and The Perks of Being A Wall Flower.

In 2005, Walsh joined the then-fledgling series Grey’s Anatomy, and originated the part of Addison Montgomery, M.D. Though initially a scheming and acid-tongued character, Addison eventually emerged as a sympathetic figure, and Walsh was hired to anchor a spinoff-series entitled Private Practice which aired on ABC between 2007 and 2013.

Aside from her acting – which includes multiple turns in off-Broadway and Chicago area theaters as well as voice-over work – Walsh is also known for founding Boyfriend LLC, a beauty and lifestyle company.
