Eric Winter and Roselyn Sanchez
Real-life married duo Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter star on different ABC series — Grand Hotel and The Rookie, respectively — but the two can be seen onscreen together Saturday in the Hallmark romantic feature film, A Taste of Summer.
“It’s our first time acting together,” Sanchez tells Entertainment Hub. “We’ve been together for 14 years and we’ve never worked together before, but we wanted to do a movie that our daughter [Sebella Rose, 7] could watch.”
After they read the script, Sanchez says that she and Winter had found the right project. “Hallmark has very positive messages, very clean, very safe.”
A Taste of Summer tells the love story of Gaby (Sanchez), a sous-chef, who leaves her fancy Manhattan eatery (and non-committal beau!) to visit her sister in New England. There, she meets Caleb (Winter), a former high school baseball star, who advises Gaby that opening her own dining establishment will be tough to do.
The two enter similar dishes in a “Taste of Summer” competition. Watch for Caleb to make a romantic gesture after Gaby’s sous-chef burns himself. “We rediscover our passions in life,” Winter says of Gaby and Caleb’s journey.
Winter recently returned to season two of The Rookie and his character Tim Bradford, a competitive training officer. Meanwhile, the secrets of Grand Hotel, the series on which Sanchez plays matriarch Gigi Mendoza, continue to deepen.
“The [Mendoza] family [is] so dysfunctional even though there’s a lot of love and respect there,” she says. “A lot of things will be explained and everything continues to unfold.”
Winter, who originated the part of Rex on Days of Our Lives, says he’s in touch with former co-stars Matt Cedeno (ex-Brandon), Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami), and Alexis Thorpe (ex-Cassie). As for Kyle Lowder taking on Rex last year, Winter says, “Kyle’s a great guy. There’s no one I’d rather share the role with than him.”
The Rookie returns for Season 2 to ABC on Sunday, September 29 at 10 p.m. ET. Grand Hotel airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. A Taste of Summer will air on Hallmark throughout this month including tomorrow, August 17 at 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT) and Sunday, August 18 at 12 noon ET (9 a.m. PT).
