Jon Cryer, most recently seen as the diabolical Lex Luthor on the CW’s Supergirl, is currently involved in a Twitter feud with a Florida congressman over the actor’s stint on the long-running CBS hit, Two and a Half Men. And former co-star Amber Tamblyn stepped up to defend him.
It started when Cryer called out Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz on Twitter about him inviting a “white supremacist to the State of the Union” along with some other alleged misdeeds, such as attempting to intimidate a federal witness. Cryer completed the Tweet by noting he was donating to Gaetz’s opponent. Phil Ehr.
The Congressman replied to the tweet with a dis about Cryer’s 12-year-run on the show, saying “Charlie Sheen totally carried two and a half men.”
Cryer’s response seemed to put him in his place. “Is that why, after he left, it lasted for 4 more years and I won an Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy?”
Most TV fans know that Sheen left the show after a dispute with creator Chuck Lorre, and Ashton Kutcher was brought on to take his place as one of the new leads.
In the show’s first season without Sheen, Cryer would go on to win the Emmy for Lead Actor in 2012, joining the Emmy gold he picked up three years earlier in the Supporting Actor category.
Actress and activist Amber Tamblyn (who originated the role of General Hospital’s Emily Bowen Quartermaine before moving on to film and primetime success), played Charlie’s long lost daughter Jenny on the show for two seasons (though after Sheen left), and stuck up for her onscreen uncle.
“Jon Cryer not only carried our show, he was the glue that held our show together,” she tweeted in response. “Ask anyone. Now please enjoy this gif of me making out with Lynda Carter. You’re welcome.”
And Cryer later made it clear that he wasn’t putting down his former co-star, calling Sheen the “star of the show” and a “fantastic actor.”
“Despite his issues, we had many more highs than lows,” Cryer wrote. “But you can’t say he ‘carried’ a show that lasted four years without him.”
