Just like all Days of our Lives fans don’t always agree about what they want to see in Salem, neither do the Soap Hub writers. Some of us think Nancy Wesley and Clyde Weston can never work as a couple. Some of us…are kind of really digging it. Here is one writer — and fan’s — opinion as to why Clyde, played by James Read, and Nancy, played by Patrika Darbo, are the most intriguing couple currently on the canvas.
Days of our Lives: Acting – Thank You!
Darbo and Read are such incredible pros that they can make even the banalest dialogue sound compelling. And when they’re actually given something to work with — wowzers, watch them go! Their first meeting, when Clyde confessed to being an ex-con, and Nancy appreciated his honesty — it made a nice change after living with a man who lied to her every day for multiple decades. Clyde’s reaction to meeting a disapproving Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin) was also pitch perfect, practically a master class in dramatic underplaying — to deliver a big punch.
DAYS: Golden Years
Guess what? People over the age of 30 can crave romance! Passion! Sex! Weird, we know, since most soaps — DAYS is hardly the only offender — seem to be under the impression that love is the exclusive privilege of the young (and restless — sorry!). Well, Clyde and Nancy are proving how wrong that is. You can meet someone and make a connection at any age. And, yes, we mean physical as well as emotional, thank you very much.
Days of our Lives: Could Be Worse
Everyone is acting as if Clyde is irredeemable. This, even as his son — the serial killer!!! — is basically Salem’s romantic lead. And we’re not even counting EJ DiMera, Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller), Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), and Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) — criminals all — who are equally as welcome in polite society.
Oh, and remember how Nancy, back in the days when Craig Westley (Kevin Spirtas) was giving a hell of a performance of being madly in love — and attracted — to his wife, was no angel herself? She’s another of those reformed bad girls. And now it looks like she’s met her match!
