It’s not unheard of for a soap opera to forget about, ignore, or just plain erase a character out of existence. Days of our Lives is no more guilty than most, though their list of barely mentioned and hardly remembered townsfolk is extensive.
Days of our Lives: The Barely Mentioned, The Hardly Remembered
What follows is just a sampling of Salemites that you would be as hard-pressed to recall as their supposed nearest and dearest.
Douglas LeClair
You, Hope Brady, and Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) would be forgiven for failing to remember that the latter has a namesake son born through a surrogacy program and raised by his late mother’s former husband – and Doug’s good friend – Robert LeClair (Robert Clary).
Scotty Banning
Scotty (Rick Hearst) is Julie Olson Williams’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) grandson, the offspring of the late David Banning (Gregg Marx) and his lover Trish Clayton (Patty Weaver). Thus, he is the paternal half-brother of Eli Grant (Lamon Archey)…but whether Eli is even aware of the fact he has a blood relation is unknown.
Steve Olson
Steve (Stephen Schnetzer) is Julie’s younger, strife bringing brother. He hasn’t appeared on Days of our Lives since 1980, and a return engagement probably wouldn’t be welcomed by any Salemite he ever crossed paths with…especially Maggie Horton Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) who was had to apply deadly force when one of Steve’s cronies attacked her.
An interesting aside: In 1991, Julie blithely mentioned that Steve was residing in Europe and had recently fathered a son named Spencer.
Chelsea Brady
Chelsea (Rachel Melvin) a Brady by name and Kiriakis by blood, but when’s the last time that Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) made mention of Bo Brady’s (Peter Reckell) daughter with Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna). For that matter, when’s the last time that Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) made mention of her daughter’s daughter?
Cassie Brady
Turns out that Chelsea isn’t the only family member that Kate forgets to namecheck or show any interest in. Whenever she makes a list of her children, Rex Brady’s twin sister Cassie (Alexis Thorpe) is always conspicuously mentioned. Might these have something to do with the girl’s unhealthy appetite for her half-brother, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo)?
