DAYS has long been known for its focus pullers, its scene stealers, its secret weapons…and Stacy Haiduk – the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors – is one of the soaps very best!

Stacy Haiduk – Performer of the Week

Haiduk and her animated alter-ego, Susan Banks, came tearing into the DiMera manse on a mission – locate and assess her precious grandbaby, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman). But first, she had to admonish her son, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), for holding on to so much anger – “It’s going to eat you up,” she declared, her hand flailing all around – and give him a tight squeeze. Not for nothing, but Feuerriegel and Haiduk have AMAZING mother/son chemistry.

When presented with a goodbye missive, supposedly penned by Johnny, Susan insisted that it was big fat forgery. “I may not be a fancy pants handwriting expert, but I assure you that Johnny is not the author of this here letter.”

And just to make sure that she’d been clear, and that her point was firmly across, Haiduk made sure to point exaggeratedly to the piece of paper in EJ’s hand and then authoritatively fold her arms and look Feuerriegel directly in the eyes.

When EJ continued to argue, Susan snatched the paper from his hand, determined to pinpoint exactly who was the true author. In doing so, Haiduk hilariously smooshed said paper right into her bespectacled face and dabbed it all about as if she were applying face cream.

Her claim that big, bad and very, very dead Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) was behind the lie was ignored until it wasn’t – which was good news for Johnny and Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) who were about to meet with an untoward fate.

While EJ tended to Johnny, Susan took it upon herself to slay Andre using the greatest weapon in a knitting enthusiast’s arsenal – a knitting needle. “I knew I was taking a kind of chance,” Susan later confessed, adding, “Lucky for us, that was just a demon from the fiery pits of hell.”

The topper of course was her little eulogy for the departed – “Ashes to ashes…crappy dog!”

Honorable Mention: Brock Kelly

While Haiduk’s Susan always airs on the side of the angels – avenging though they may be – Brock Kelly’s Evan Frears is certainly someone who’s given in to the Devil on his shoulder. The fact that Kelly stole the spotlight from a co-star channeling the Prince of Darkness is proof enough that he deserves this honorable mention – the fact that he commits so fully to playing such a bad feller only compounds the fact.
