Xander Cook and Gwen Snatch The Spectator From Jack and Jennifer

On today’s Days of our Lives, Xander Cook and his posse got exactly what they asked for — not that it will make them happy in the long run.

Days of our Lives Recap Highlights

In addition, Chanel (Raven Bowens) called time on her relationship with serial cheater Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold), and Paulina (Jackée Harry) gave Johnny (Carson Boatman) a nudge in the right direction. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.

Days of our Lives Recap: Xander Cook & Gwen Play To Win

The ball was very much in Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer’s (Cady McClain) court. On the one hand, they could hand control of The Spectator over to their blackmailers; on the other, Jennifer could go to prison for getting high as a kite and running one of their blackmailers over.

Since Jennifer does possess ethics — skewed though they might sometimes be — she insisted that the truth come out, damn the consequences! Gwen (Emily O’Brien) called her step-mommy’s bluff and got as far as getting Police Commissioner Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) on the line before Jack stepped in. The paper is Xander and Gwen’s to do with as they wish. G-d have mercy on them and it.

But there remains one question without a definitive answer. Has Gwen finally been satisfied? Jennifer doesn’t think so. As far as she’s concerned, the villainess will go on coveting.

Opposite the above handoff, Leo (Greg Rikaart) put Sonny (Zach Tinker) on high alert with the news that a) Gwen was wrestling control of the newspaper away from Jack as they spoke and b) Sonny was looking at the publication’s newest hire.

How could this be, wondered Sonny. More importantly, how could cousin Xander do this to Jack, his supposed best mate? If this doesn’t prove that Xander is the worst, then what will?

Xander Cook and Gwen come to Leo’s defense against Sonny.

DOOL Recap: Chanel Finishes With Allie Horton

While Chanel let herself into the apartment that she shares with Allie, Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) dove under the kitchen table and hid himself behind the appropriately long tablecloth.

Once inside, Chanel got down to the business at hand — making things right with her girlfriend. Allie couldn’t have been happier. Well, she probably could have done without Chanel confessing to very nearly bedding Johnny, but boy was she heartened to hear that Chanel pulled away and made it clear that she was a one-lover woman.

With her cards on the table, Chanel wondered if there was a way through for her and Allie. Allie swore that there was. Rapprochement achieved! And then Alex’s phone began to ring. What an inconvenience.

Not recognizing the ringtone, Chanel wondered if Allie had changed hers. Yep, that’s exactly what happened blithered Allie, not in the least bit convincing. Uh-huh, said Chanel, not in the least bit convinced. After excusing herself, Chanel made a call…to Alex…BUSTED!

Chanel Dupree has had it with Allie.

How could you, demanded Chanel of Allie. I’m so sorry offered, Allie. So, so sorry. But surely, after all that they’ve been through, they can get past this…right? Wrong. Chanel’s tired; tired of the constant back and forth, tired of the pain that they cause one another, just plain tired. It’s over. They’re over. Goodbye…no mention of good luck.

Days of our Lives Recap: Paulina Price Knows Her Stuff

Okay, Paulina can agree that Johnny isn’t the sole reason for Chanel and Allie’s angst, but she does know that her one-time son-in-law isn’t helping matters.

After taking it upon herself to remind Johnny that he and Chanel are EXES, Paulina also took the time to encourage the dejected youth to try again with Wendy (Victoria Grace).

Paulina has advice for Johnny DiMera.

It was pretty solid advice…and something similar was being doled out elsewhere from Gabi (Camila Banus) to Wendy. Also, Gabi was savvy enough to point out something pretty obvious that had escaped Wendy: Allie seemed to be purposefully — spitefully even — sabotaging Wendy and Johnny’s romance.

With their new perspectives, Johnny and Wendy chanced upon one another and agreed that they should return to his place to stream and chill.
