In the Days of our Lives recap for Thursday, January 11, 2024, Theresa removed Alex from her inner circle with Brady after Alex made the unilateral decision to fire Justin as Tate’s attorney.
In addition, Harris presented a plan to Kate and Roman that could help with Salem’s current drug epidemic. Chad and Everett interviewed Paulina about the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They also asked her about the drug crisis plaguing their town. And Rafe did his best to protect Tate from any further attacks. Now let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
While talking to Paulina (Jackée Harry), Harris (Steve Burton) thought up a way to do serious damage to Salem’s opioid crisis. It involved making a great big ask of Kate (Lauren Koslow) and Roman (Josh Taylor). He thought Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) was in the perfect position to help bring down the drug trade from behind bars. Kate immediately rejected any thought of putting her son in danger.
At The Spectator, Chad (Billy Flynn) and Everett (Blake Berris) continued to work together. Unfortunately, this meant occasionally having to talk about Stephanie (Abigail Klein). Chad admitted he spotted Everett and Stephanie kissing on New Year’s Eve (refresh your memory here). Sure, Chad and Stephanie had moved on, but he still wanted to let Everett know that he knew about that kiss.
Eventually, the two actually talked about business. They mentioned their plans to cover the upcoming MLK holiday. Good thing they have an interview with Paulina Price — Salem’s first Black female mayor — on the books. It’s the perfect opportunity to get her thoughts on the MLK Day festivities as well as the Salem drug crisis.
During the interview, an ailing Paulina couldn’t hold back her coughs. When faced with the question about the holiday, she talked about how it was important to keep Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message alive. Then, she tried to answer their question about the drug epidemic with a statement.
She called attention to the fact that opioids are 100x stronger than heroin. And that drugs have always been a problem, but because they’re so much stronger these days, they’re in a much more dire situation. Unfortunately, the interview and her statement ended after she couldn’t stop coughing and wheezing, which concerned both Chad and Everett.

Later, Paulina called University Hospital back, hoping she’d get the results of her tests and find out what was wrong with her. However, the nurse wouldn’t give them to her over the phone. She has to come in and meet with the doctor in person. This can’t be good and Paulina knew it.
Harris told both Kate and Roman his plan — he wanted to enlist Lucas’s help to bring down the drug trade from behind bars. Kate was reluctant to approve, but she suddenly got a call from Billie that she had to take…leaving Roman and Harris to talk it out.
Understandably, Roman wasn’t on board at first. Harris felt he could arrange an early release for Lucas. But it all rested on him helping find the person in Statesville allegedly behind all the drugs coming into Salem. At first, Roman couldn’t shake the fact Lucas was behind bars for kidnapping his daughter.
However, he also knew how much this would mean to Kate, so he helped her see reason when they later discussed it. Kate then called Harris and said she would take the cop to Statesville to talk to Lucas.
At the police precinct, Theresa (Emily O’Brien), Brady (Eric Martsolf), and Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) filled Rafe (Galen Gering) in on what happened to Tate. That he was attacked by an adult and now they were terrified of what else could happen to him. A shocked Rafe took it upon himself to rectify Tate’s (Jamie Martin Mann) situation. Thankfully, he moved Tate to a more isolated section of the prison. Plus, he brought him ice and put the fear of God in the guards to ensure they protected Tate from harm.
When Justin (Wally Kurth) showed up and let everybody know that the judge rejected Tate’s appeal, Alex went off on his “dad.” He badgered Justin and completely dragged him and his skills as a lawyer. For his part, Justin defended his so-called incompetence as a lawyer. He couldn’t stop the judge from rejecting the appeal. He did everything he could, but there was no stopping it from happening.
Theresa tried to calm Alex down and prevent him from his laying into Justin. She said “Dad” instead of Justin — that was a little slip. However, Alex couldn’t be calmed. Justin said he wouldn’t stand for this berating from his son. He decided to remove himself from this case. Alex was totally cool with that because he had someone more ruthless in his pocket who was already trying to work some magic.
Later, Brady talked to Justin, who followed through with his threat and filled out the paperwork to remove himself as the attorney of record for Tate. Brady let him know that Alex didn’t speak for him. That he wanted somebody he trusted to help Tate. He wanted to call Belle and Carrie, but could he subject them to Alex’s bluster? Nope.
Finally, Theresa had the last word. After Alex’s lawyer friend called back and said he couldn’t do anything more than had already been done, they all realized Justin was right. He couldn’t have stopped the judge from rejecting Tate’s appeal.
Theresa was so done with Alex making unilateral decisions about her and Brady’s son. She asked him to leave the interrogation room so she and Brady could decide what was next for Tate. Brady noticed how harsh she was with Alex. Theresa didn’t care. She only cared about what was happening to their son.
